According to MLS Soccer in their June 9 report, a win for the U.S. will help them clinch a spot in the quarterfinals. A draw could also be good enough for the United States, but at this point, winning seems to be the team's priority. They will probably look to a similar lineup that won them their most recent game. On the other side, Paraguay needs to not only beat the U.S. in the game, but has to hope Colombia either wins or draws against Costa Rica. That makes this a key matchup for both teams on Saturday. Based on the USA's 4-0 victory this past week, the team has plenty of momentum to keep it going while playing in the United States.
While Team USA manager Jurgen Klinsmann was criticized for starting the same lineup in back-to-back matches this past week, it ended up working out just fine for the team, leading to the solid rout of Costa Rica. However, it's been pointed out that there could be some players who are a bit worn down from all the playing time they've had. Among them would be Jermaine Jones who played a total of 90 minutes in the Costa Rica game, and Clint Dempsey, who will play his third game within eight days, all within different time zones. Despite that, Klinsmann remains optimistic his guys can "push through any fatigue" for this important game in Philadelphia.
As of this report, the United States was listed as a +108 favorite on the Vegas Insider consensus. Paraguay was listed as a +265 underdog, with a draw priced at +250 on the money line. The over/under goals total was at 2-1/2 goals for the complete game. Future odds had Team USA as 20 to 1 favorites to win the Copa America Centenario which is tied with Ecuador. Paraguay was listed a bit lower on the list at 66 to 1 odds to win it all.
